Fun With Drug Paraphernalia!

Ladies…

It. Has. Arrived.

Ye giant ass box of drugs.

Yes, we have Menopur, Gonal-F, sharps container, Lupron.

And HCG, doxycycline, Estrace, and Valium.

This is starting to sound like The Periodic Table Song. (No really, click on this. Scroll down and listen to the song. I for one, have been thoroughly entertained by this, and it is now my new goal to learn the words to the entire song.)

I digress.

Chris found his one and only medication right away: A little bottle of 20 tablets of doxycycline. Loser.

Me? I had… all the rest.

Toby did a stellar photobomb.

Look at it all. By golly, look at it.

My IM shot.

That needle is seriously creeping me out. I don’t care that I am a nurse. I’ve seen IM injections. It doesn’t mean I am jazzed about having my husband stick this into my skin.

See what I mean? He can’t wait to get me back for all those times I yelled at him when I was on Clomid.

It’s quite overwhelming. I mean, everything is in there. So many syringes. So very many syringes.

My paraphernalia has nestled very nicely into our bedroom. Because nothing screams romance quite like the sight of two-inch needles and vaginal suppositories staring you in the face while you’re lying in bed.

There you have it. I’m glad it got here today, so I can have a day in between. Or, I will just successfully psych myself out waiting to give my first injection Thursday morning.

Also, I had another s’more tonight.

Scary but exciting. I love the look of revenge on your husband's face in that shot!!

Oh my word! (Yeah, that is not make me sound like an 80 yr old lol). But how?! Did you get this through your fertility doctor? My hubs and I have talked about doing this, but honestly, I'm scared. Kudos to you and your husband for doing this. That needle looks scary! I'm terrified of needles/vaccine. I have done progesterone and clomid (4 rounds), but it made me sick. Please let us now how this goes! Sending some baby dust your way! 😀

Oh my word!!! The idea of having to stick myself or have DH stick me with a needle gives me nightmares. Good luck!

Whew! There it all is in all its glory! Also, as a fellow nurse, I was scared beyond scared to let my hubby give me an IM injection. I thought for sure that he would hit my nerve and that it was going to hurt like hell. Maybe it's just me, but that thing goes in smooth and I never feel a thing…literally nothing. Turns out my ass muscle must be ginormous. And I scared my husband so bad that I think it's way worse for him!

Yeah, the box of drugs. Always fun to see what's going into your body. I remember shaking with those first few IM injections cause, yeah, that's a big needle. But my experience was the same as Emily's (okay, by week 8, not quite as smooth and painless, but still better than expected). Besides, it was a great excuse for evening massages. 😉

Kudos to Chris! My husband can't even be in the same room when I give our cat his insulin. When we get to IVF, I'll be doing all my own injections…

One day at a time….pretty soon that stash will dwindle down 🙂 Plus those IM injections don't have much bark to their bite, you're a tough cookie you'll be just fine 🙂

I know, isn't it though?? Man I hope all this stuff works.

Risa

Ha ha it's a great face! Really, he probably is really excited to inject me.

Risa

Thanks Sindi! Like I said on the FB page, I got it all from Freedom. There is no way my local pharmacy carries all this. Trust me, I'm terrified of needles too. Where are you now in your treatments?

Risa
Guest

Yep its definitely a source of anxiety. I am nervous about the sub q shots burning when I inject the meds. Ugh. I'm freaking myself out.

Risa
Guest

Ok definitely a relief to hear, but my mind will not relax until I actually do it… Which unfortunately isn't for a couple weeks…

Wow… overwhelming box. Love the look on your husbands face… i think he might be looking forward to injecting you a little too much.

I know it's scary, but you can do it!! Your pictures cracked me up! IM is pretty smooth like Emily said and I think it helps you can see it….I have giant ass muscles too. Slow inject for the Menopur, it will help the burn. I think my husband secretly enjoys jabbing me as well. Yours will be a pro before you know it! Good luck!

I'm glad your meds arrived safe and sound! We all know by now that nothing says romance like vaginal suppositories lol. I've heard that ladies give themselves treats after each night of shots as a reward system, so maybe you should get a s'more after every shot!

Wow… Looks so overwhelming! I'm hoping this one is it for you!

By the way, your house looks so cozy! And your dog is too cute!

My kitchen table looks a lot like that 😉 Best of luck. I was always curious why some nurses are so good at blood draws (no pain) while some totally suck (major ouchie). It's always the same ole veins, right? Someone told me it's the amount of empathy they have for the patients. Now, I don't know if that's a wacko theory or not, but I can tell you when Eric gives me my IM Progesterone shots, I can totally tell how it's going to feel based on his mood at the moment. Last night we had a big fight… Read more »

Ooo very true. Massages are nice! He only has to do it for my trigger so it's a one time thing. That makes me even more wussy. 🙂

Risa
Guest

Ha ha I don't know what it is about needles that just makes people panic. Luckily he only gets to stab me once. All the other sub q ones I am doing myself.

Laura
Guest

CAN'T see it! It's helps you can't see it. You're probably wondering what the hell I'm talking about 🙂

Oh my heavens, what a box! Good luck with all of the injections/medications/schedules and hope that the IVF gets great results for you! Fellow nurse here – and I hate, hate, hate needles (or at least the ones that go into my own body). For some reason, I don't really mind giving injections to others, but I hate getting poked myself. It took me about an hour and a half to give myself my first sub-q injection with Follistim. I kept looking at the needle, disinfecting my abdomen, then deciding I couldn't do it, then reminding myself I had to.… Read more »

AHHH! Holy smokes! That's a lot of medication… more importantly, that's a heck of a lot of needles. I'm so sorry hon! You are so, so, so brave! Wishing you the best as you start this journey!

Big needle! I'm not sure I would trust my husband with it, either. Good luck!

Risa

Eeee! I hope so!

Risa

Yeah it was pretty overwhelming when I first opened it. Certain syringes went with certain meds. Yikes. Got it all figured out now.

Risa
Guest

Ha ha! No I get it. I haven't decided if it's good or bad to not see it… Ugh. Yes. I heard that about the menopur. Good to know. My clinic just told me that it'll burn whether u push it fast or slow. 🙁

Risa
Guest

Ooo yes, sexy suppositories. I like the idea of a reward system..

Risa
Guest

Thanks Jennifer! Yeah he's pretty adorable. He knows how to play the camera.

Risa
Guest

That cracked me up! Note to self, no fighting before the injection…
Table is from Ikea 🙂

Risa
Guest

Ha! Yes. When I just had the trigger shot to give once a month, it took a lot of willpower to do it. Lots of time spent staring at my stomach and back at the needle.

Risa
Guest

🙂 yep. If I don't laugh, I'll cry.

Risa
Guest

It is a LOT of needles. So many different ones for each medication. I wouldn't necessarily call it brave as much as baby-obsessed. 🙂

Risa
Guest

Thanks! I hope so too! I'm definitely worried about how I'm going to feel after all these…

AuntMimi

Holy meds! That's a giant box of nerves, excited-ness, and sheer terror all wrapped up in a nice little package. I have faith it's going to go great.

Risa
Guest

Ugh I know right? I have horrible visions of him being over zealous and bouncing the needle off my hip bone or something..

Risa
Guest

Wow. Amazing comparison. That is exactly how you describe it.

Catwoman73

I'm a respiratory therapist, and stick needles into people's arteries all the time… yet I shook like a leaf the first time I had to give myself a sub-q injection. I can't imagine having to do an IM one. You are a brave woman, Risa… can't wait to read all about this journey (including, of course, the happy ending!).

This is HILARIOUS. I love all the pictures. Especially the one with Toby's stellar photo bomb. And about those IM needles…it took me about 15 minutes to psych myself up for the first one. Andrew honestly thought that we might have to cancel the whole thing. But we did it and it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Risa
Guest

Well I am on day 6, and I still HATE shots. Thanks for following along. And listening to my injection whining. 🙂

Risa
Guest

Thanks you!!! And yes, you have described it perfectly!

Risa
Guest

Ha ha thanks!

Risa
Guest

Ha ha he does a lot of good photo bombs 🙂 And thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. I guarentee, the massive panic will set in and I will choke right before doing it… Ugh I can't even think about it. I know it probably won't be as bad, but I'm scared. And my husband isn't a nurse. Lol imagine Andrew never holding a syringe in his life!

Amber

I love the pictures. You both are just too dang cute! I hope the injections are going okay and you aren't feeling too many adverse effects. Hopefully Chris is nice with the needles 🙂 more than anything, I wish you the best in all this!
